Experience as Gamelofter in 2018

I have been in Gameloft several years and still counting…, also I feel enjoyed working on there. Gameloft always bring good atmosphere that encourage our ability to take new challenges for gathering new idea, concept, and many more. We work as a team, so if you get any difficulties, you can freely  ask your teammates not only inside studios, but also overseas studios too! It is a cool thing that you can take an info or share knowledge with an other members although the distance is too far away. There are several division working on Gameloft office like Graphic Artist, Human Resources (HR), Quality Assurance (QA), IT, Hardware (HW), Programmer (PRG), Game Designer (GD), Office Administration (OA), etc.

I am from PRG division, and in 2018 several contests from my division are to create an application like ads game contest, and prototyping race.  Another contest is you can customize codes and push it to see your AI fighting with your colleagues’s AI. Almost every month, open an internal workshop called “Lunch ‘n Learn”. This workshop start from 12 pm until 1 pm with great topics from other viewpoints of making game. After the workshop ends, you get a free lunchbox. By the way in every end of month, Gameloft provide Healthy Day program. This program is give various of fruits in certain times (4x times a day). We cannot drink some coffee or tea that usually we have it for free, but Gameloft replaced it to a healthier one like infused water.

In this year, Jogja Studio open new team in Android PRG division called Research and Development. Their task is to try new features is applicable into Gameloft project or not. If you get a chance to be a part of this group, it will be fun to improve our skills, because you can see new development of Android by Google can be adapted into Gameloft project. I get this chance for approximately 2 months, and now move to My Little Pony project.

I am proud to be a Gamelofter because every year we celebrate Gameloft birthday (Staff Trip) in awesome places. In 2018 we celebrated in Jogja Bay Park. I came with my sister because she had free time to wait for placement work after graduated from college. We tried several tire water slide adventures, and it was my first time because I could not swim. Fortunately, it used double and triple person tires with a hand grip on each in right and left side. In the end of event, I got a prize because I was called to dance on stage (my dance was so poor :D, but it was OK enough to entertain). As far as I work in Gameloft, I never got a door prize. The door prize is always a cool stuff, such as smartphone, famous gaming headset, coffee maker, etc.

Every year, on each team get a team building ticket. In 2018, we took 2 places to doing something together that enhance our bonding. The first place was rafting in Elo river, Magelang. In each boat had 1 instructor to coach how to handle boat together. Luckily, we never got a prank from instructor, because we voluntarily tried to get out to the boat. In another team they got a prank, so it will more tightened their adrenaline. The second place we took a terrarium workshop. My terrarium still alive and fresh until now. We tried to put on small and medium pebbles, soil, moss in a jar. You could design it freely. I won second place in my team hahaha.

My birthday was celebrated with pizza, and a roll top backpack from Gameloft, but when gifting time, I was on sick leave because my wisdom tooth got extraction. Other cool event that celebrated in Gameloft Jogja for women is Kartini’s Day. Kartini’s Day 2018 was filled with mini games and sharing session. In break time, we get a lunchbox. After that, it has a workshop about photography technique. In closing time, we get a  food storage set gift, yeeay :D. I took a decoration balloon in my desk, because it has cute polka dot pattern.

Wishes as Gamelofter 2019

As a Gamelofter, I wish Gameloft can hire more locals. It is one of benefit to Gameloft, because in 2020 Indonesia will get a demographic dividend. Indonesian millennial are known bring creativity and innovative into diversity. So, it will make good impact to Gameloft in the future.

Next, I hope Gameloft create self-improvement event such running event for charity, or vehicle free program replaced with walking / cycling / use public transportation to reduce health insurance expenses, improve health employee, and save environment from vehicle emission. Other self-improvement event is spiritual / cultural event to encourage tolerances in a workplace.

I want Gameloft provide division meeting once a month to brainstorm and each person give new idea to be consideration. If the idea is good, it will be used, and the employee who give good idea get cool rewards. It will make employee to be more active and productive.

In 2019, my wish in Gameloft to get more engaged between employees. We can rise the kinship with help action or reward action whether our friend get misfortune or lucky. We prevent bad things happened to our colleagues. It could be a share, help, and do other positive actions to make better improvement in holistic aspects, because we grow as a team, not individually.

Our resolution in Gameloft is keep fairness around colleagues. We should give our colleagues time to share their mind anywhere and every time. It will make great atmosphere start by me, team, division, until a high hierarchy. This small step could prevent bad things like jealousy, fight between colleagues, until biggest problem like corruption, collusion, nepotism. We form cool personality and nice attitude although we are still young.

Optimism to reach higher goal is something that cannot be avoided. We cannot being too ambitious, but we cannot stay in our comfort zone. We plan and set effective strategy to deal Asean Vision (MEA) 2020. The strategy is to increase game technology development skill to compete China and India. We believe we can do it, because it is aligned with government’s objectives.

About memories in the past, we can take a life lesson and keep energetic and fun to fill future with better impression. Gameloft is known as enjoy place to learn and grow. Our work is facing a game and get another idea to solve a problem. We keep humble to sit together and do discussion if we meet any difficulties. Every day, we take a smile when meet someone to carry positive moods among us. A good mood could affect evolving productivity.

End of 2018 as inspiring year, because many life journey stages have been reached. It could be more wise to decide a step ahead to the future. Experience is the best teacher because we prefer take progress learning over instant learning to get something. So what we have done, usually need our effort itself.

My deepest condolence for tsunami victims in Lampung and Banten recently. We will glad to get an opportunity to help them. Our pray to them for peace and patience. We still sad about earthquake that happened in Lombok and Palu. May the victims have the best place now and still, and keep asking God’s protection.

Gameloft Indonesia is located in Yogyakarta, between Merapi mount and southern coast of Java. Merapi mount is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia and still erupted regularly. Indonesia’s volcanoes is a part of Pacific Ring of Fire. We should aware and take a look suitable mitigation to increase Gamelofter survivor from natural disaster that unpredictable when and where it will happen.
